Well, after a bit of a break since my EuroTrip, you can start to guess that I’m back blogging again… well at least trying too :)

I have been sending off emails to people that I would like to interview for my Honours, and am getting some great responses :D a lot of the people that I really wanted are already responding!

There is a lot of work that I need to get done at the moment, so I’m trying to get to that a bit more successfully!

Things are going great with my lovely lady too, so I couldn’t be much happier in that regard :D it’s exciting watching things from where I stand!

I’m making some good friends over here. Spending time is the biggest dilemma, I’m not often free at the same time as my friends from Towers, and most of them are in first year – thus not quite as busy as me! That being said, I’m getting close with some of the people I met through Joni though, hoping to move into Townhouses next semester – failing that I’m hoping to get into traditional housing. James and I were imagining what it would have been like if we had ended up living together over at Univercity…hehe, now he’s next door to Joni at least :D now I’m trying to get him to come to Montreal in the summer!

I’m kinda putting off a lot of writing, I think I have the new-country-writing-jitters… I’m kinda reluctant to start writing because I know I’ve never written in their academic style.

I sent Mark (my ex-Mosman coach, now JCBC) my personal statement etc for Cambridge last week and I’m kinda excited to see what could come from that.

There’s an essay competition about proportional representation for Canada that I’m going to enter in, $5000 that could help cover my Honours course fee. Failing that, I hope to take out some kind of student loan as well as working next semester.

Anyway, I’m getting back to studying now!

I think one of my biggest weaknesses is how much I love feeling appreciated. It’s the one thing that I need to constantly remind myself that it is my problem, otherwise it would be easy to feel hurt when I don’t feel like I’m appreciated, or a priority.

Still, I have to be careful and accept that it is important to me. I’ve had relationships (friendships, romantic and business) turn sour because I put in a whole heap of work and people get used to it, expect it and don’t appreciate it enough.

Yet another way that I have learned more about myself…becoming comfortable in my own skin.

  • Ahh! Another application!

Ahh!! I just got an email from Mark (former rowing coach at Mosman) and he said I need to write an application for Cambridge ASAP! Because he wants to get it in for the 2009 deadline!

So many applications and papers are popping out everywhere at the moment!

This one’s kinda exciting, but completely jumps right into the middle of my plans for the next 18 months! If I do get accepted, I’ll need to sort out funding (after paying for my Honours at SFU) and it may mean that I don’t get back home for a while ;( — it may work out to be Montreal for the summer (save some $$) and then catch a flight across the Atlantic to study in the UK for a year.

…yes, little Lukey is growing up, believe it or not!

Well, just a quick note: from where I’m standing…life looks great, the future, however unknown, is exciting!

Was just walking back from Joni’s when one of my favourite songs came on my iPod…

    “Invincible” by Muse

    Follow through
    Make your dreams come true
    Don’t give up the fight
    You will be alright
‘Cause there’s no one like you in the universe

    Don’t be afraid
    What your mind conceives
    You should make a stand
Stand up for what you believe
    And tonight
    We can truly say
    Together we’re invincible

    During the struggle
    They will pull us down
    But please, please
    Let’s use this chance
    To turn things around
    And tonight
    We can truly say
    Together we’re invincible

    Do it on your own
It makes no difference to me
    What you leave behind
    What you choose to be
    And whatever they say
    Your souls unbreakable

    During the struggle
    They will pull us down
    But please, please
    Let’s use this chance
    To turn things around
    And tonight
    We can truly say
    Together we’re invincible
    Together we’re invincible

    During the struggle
    They will pull us down
    Please, please
    Let’s use this chance
    To turn things around
    And tonight
    We can truly say
    Together we’re invincible
    Together we’re invincible

Okay, here’s more that I didn’t update on last night.

    • Well, I stopped rugby pretty soon after starting because I realised that it is not worth the high chance of becoming a paraplegic ;( – rowing over here is basically screwed. I’m not sure I’m that enthusiastic after I was kinda stuffed around by them. I still love the sport but I think it may not be the right time and place for me to be on the water at the moment. (also being really flat out with uni, letting that take the reins for a bit)
    • We’re thinking MONTREAL NEXT SUMMER!! Then possibly Australia, or heading to somewhere to work teaching ESL and getting paid well :) (pay of student loans) — the options are endless!!
    • Things are going to be really hectic, and next semester I’m going to start needing more money :( — honours is costing $4500 (all I’m doing is writing a thesis and having 1 meeting a month!??!?!?!!), res is $2500 and compulsory meal plan $1350 (minimum) so I’m going to have to find work.

P.S. I’ve started moving personal posts to private because this site is increasingly being used as my resume (essentially).

  • Growing up and growing stones

    luke 10:10 am on September 16, 2008 | 1 Permalink

Sorry its been ages since my last post, things have been full on over here :)

Currently I’m doing 17cp at SFU including my honours project!

I’m graduating this spring and after that I have no idea what I’m doing. I grew the stones to bring it up with Joni last night and we had a really good chat, about everything really. Man, I’m lucky with that girl :) – soon it’ll be a year that we’ve been together, wow!

We talked about the fact that we’re both graduating and making plans for the future and the reality of the moment is, however scary one may find it, we’re both making plan’s with each other in mind. It kind of hit me that I am really an adult now. Scary, but more exciting than anything when I think about it.

I’m still working on my lack of skills with confrontation for things that are important to me, last night was an improvement. Still got more work in that area, but I’l get there :D

In other news, somehow I’m the first International student to be accepted into an Honours program here at SFU, so I’m treading new ground and again proving that if its not working, just push harder ;)

Things are going to be really hectic, and next semester I’m going to start needing more money :(

But… I’ve really got it good, and life is exciting… WOW!

    Peace out ;)
