Jeff Han is a research scientist for New York University’s Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences. Here, he demonstrates—for the first time publicly—his intuitive, “interface-free,” touch-driven computer screen, which can be manipulated intuitively with the fingertips, and responds to varying levels of pressure.

    Length of two weeks

Poor Sarah Banning had no idea what to do when asked to measure the length of two weeks in meters…

I used to love all these mis-prints at school.

Hello HSC’ers and Uni Students out there (and anyone else) who are sucked into the books at the moment…read on

If you have any of these misprint’s that you come across, send them to me and I’ll post up the best ones (it must be published material, not any of my poor spulinng misteighks).

By the way, there are prizes for the best things sent into me (usually involves coffee or some other beverage).

    Cheers,

    Luke

  • Becoming an Olympian through reality TV

    luke 10:08 am on September 14, 2006 | 0 Permalink | Reply

Today marks the official launch of China’s national coxswain competition. The competition, in the form of a TV reality show, aims to select two national team coxswains in time for the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and will be broadcast on China’s major television network, China Central Television (CCTV).

    Read on here

I find a few things fascinating there:

    1. How all other Olympians train for years and how many never make it
    2. How China wants a real hype for the 2008 Olympics in Bejing
    3. It creates a huge interest in a previously low-media-profile sport
    4. How much the Chinese love reality TV!!!

What are your thoughts? Comment and let me know.

    Cheers,
    Luke

  • Back on the scene, moved to wordpress

    luke 8:41 am on September 13, 2006 | 0 Permalink | Reply

    Hi All,

Yes it has been ages, but letting you know that I have made the move to wordpress, spillingbeans.wordpress.com.

Well, it has been a while since I made an appearance in the blogging world, but I have had so many ideas that I have chosen not to blog and I have benifited so much from other bloggers that I have decided to contribute back.

This is hosted at wordpress.com at the moment whilst I get a bit more dough for webhosting but I already own the domain (spillingbeans.net).

As I have so many varying areas of interest, most people will find things boring, so therefore this is going to be a category based site. Main areas will start off as Blog (for my thoughts etc), Tech (sub-sections, tips, design and apple), Rowing, and a some site wide posts.

So please enjoy, I will get to personalising it later, just have a lot of work at the moment.

But everyone don’t forget if you have any ideas of what you want to see, questions that I can post articles in response to please email me as I really want this to be a reader’s focused blog!

(Yes I know this is just another distraction from Uni and Work etc, but it also helps me not forget so many cool things that I find out! So that’s gotta be a plus…right?)

    Cheers,

    Luke
