Macquarie University and SCEGGS Redlands Rowing Shed remains
School row boats destroyed in arson attack – National – smh.com.au

POLICE have reactivated a task force to find a serial arsonist they believe is setting fires on the North Shore, including one early yesterday in which a boatshed was destroyed.

Seventeen rowing boats belonging to SCECGS Redlands, and the boathouse in Tambourine Bay Road, Riverview, which is also used by Macquarie University, were destroyed.

Police believe the fire is linked to a string of fires around the North Shore this year and last year.

It is just shocking really, first Sydney University, then a scouts shed apparently, now SCEGGS and Mac Uni.

    Guitar crafted as a gun

Promoting peace, Colombian crafts guns into guitars – Yahoo! News

BOGOTA, Colombia (Reuters) – Polished rosewood and an artist’s deft touch are all Colombian craftsman Luis Alberto Paredes needs to turn tools of death into symbols of hope. One of Colombia’s top musical instrument makers, Paredes has branched out from traditional methods to fashion electric guitars from shotguns and AK47 rifles once used by fighters caught up in the country’s lingering guerilla conflict.

Can you believe this? HP is pitching a new “artistic effect” called the slimming feature.

Take a picture, play with the slider, and melt a few pounds away. It’s also interesting that the demo on their site only uses women models — perfectly healthy looking woman at that.

  • The unsolvable math problem

    luke 8:31 am on September 20, 2006 | 1 Permalink | Reply

Well, it has been a few days, as I have had an assessment due in so slightly stessfull!
Nonetheless, a great article below, don’t we all wish that that happened to us (HSC & Uni students agreeing right now).
Funny how stories change though :-)

Urban Legends Reference Pages: The Unsolvable Math Problem

A young college student was working hard in an upper-level math course, for fear that he would be unable to pass. On the night before the final, he studied so long that he overslept the morning of the test.

When he ran into the classroom several minutes late, he found three equations written on the blackboard. The first two went rather easily, but the third one seemed impossible. He worked frantically on it until — just ten minutes short of the deadline — he found a method that worked, and he finished the problems just as time was called.

The student turned in his test paper and left. That evening he received a phone call from his professor. “Do you realize what you did on the test today?” he shouted at the student.

“Oh, no,” thought the student. I must not have gotten the problems right after all.

“You were only supposed to do the first two problems,” the professor explained. “That last one was an example of an equation that mathematicians since Einstein have been trying to solve without success. I discussed it with the class before starting the test. And you just solved it!”
