The BA (Internet Studies) is about the human dimension of the Internet: how people network, interconnect, and creatively design the Internet. The course gives you the chance to develop key skills and knowledge of the Internet as a social technology of communication and interaction and as a key development in the digital and virtual world of media and information in which we now live. The course combines professional outcomes, scholarly creativity, technological skills and intellectually demanding academic study, with an emphasis on deeper understandings, as well as the chance for innovative, cutting-edge project work. The course is made up of twenty-four units, of which sixteen (the major) are devoted to your Internet Studies; the remaining eight units are yours to choose as electives, permitting you to craft a degree that suits your individual needs and interests, while providing a grounding in Internet applications and uses through common units. The approach is interdisciplinary involving options to develop skills in website design, online writing and communication, virtual community management, appreciating the political and social uses of the Internet, and linking with other disciplines in media, business, computing, and more.
